Getting started
- Create a script. On the library screen, tap New script (+) and type or paste your text.
- Open the record screen. Tap the record button next to a script (or Record with this script in the editor). Allow camera and microphone access the first time.
- Record. Press the red button. After the countdown, recording starts and the script scrolls.
- Review and save. When you stop, watch the take, then choose Save to Photos, Retake or Discard. Saved videos go to the Teleprompter album in Photos.
During a take
- Pause or resume: tap the script text.
- Repeat a line: tap Back to jump back three lines.
- Speed and text size: adjust them live with the sliders.
- Mirror: flips the text for use with a beam-splitter teleprompter rig.
- Controls hidden? They fade out a few seconds into a take. Tap the camera image to bring them back.
Settings
Tap ⚙️ on the library screen to set your defaults:
- Scroll speed in words per minute. 130–160 wpm is a natural speaking pace.
- Text size, countdown (off, 3, 5 or 10 seconds), orientation and reading area height.
The read time shown in your library is based on your default speed, so it tells you how long a take will last.
Common questions
Does the script appear in my video?
No. Only the camera image and your voice are recorded. The script overlay is never saved.
My video is mirrored, or the preview looks backwards
With the front camera, the preview is mirrored like a selfie so it feels natural. The saved video is not mirrored, which is the iPhone's standard behaviour, so any writing behind you reads correctly.
The app can't use the camera or microphone
Open the iPhone Settings app → Simply TelePrompt (or TelePrompt) and turn on Camera and Microphone. Then reopen the app.
My recording wasn't saved to Photos, or there's no Teleprompter album
Open Settings → Simply TelePrompt → Photos and choose Full Access.
With Limited access, iOS may not let the app create or use an album. Your video is still saved to your library, just not in the Teleprompter album, and the app tells you when this happens.
Can I change orientation during a recording?
No. Choose Portrait or Landscape before you start (in Settings or on the record screen). The saved video always matches your choice.
Does the scrolling follow my voice?
Not at the moment. The script scrolls at a steady speed. Tap the text to pause, tap Back to repeat lines, and change the speed live if you're ahead or behind.
My recording stopped by itself
A phone call, or leaving the app, stops the recording. Whatever was recorded up to that point goes to the review screen so you can still save it. Turning on Focus or Do Not Disturb before you record helps avoid interruptions.
Can I use an external or Bluetooth microphone?
The app records from whatever audio input the iPhone is currently using. Connect your microphone before opening the record screen.
Are my scripts backed up or synced?
Scripts are stored only on your iPhone. There is no iCloud sync. If you delete the app, your scripts are deleted too, so keep a copy of anything important (for example, paste it into Notes).
Saved videos are in your Photos library and are not affected by deleting the app.
The app is using a lot of storage
A take you haven't saved or discarded yet is kept temporarily, at roughly 100–150 MB per minute of video. Saving or discarding it frees the space.
Can I format my script (bold, colours, cue marks)?
Scripts are plain text. Use blank lines to separate sections and make them easier to find while reading.
What video quality does it record?
Videos are recorded in 1080p HD with sound, using the iPhone's standard video format.
Is there an iPad or Android version?
Simply TelePrompt is currently available for iPhone only.
